A reputable online forex broker will always have on their website the option of signing up for a forex demo account. These accounts should be easy to sign up for, no documents required and absolutely free with no strings attached.

A forex demo account, sometimes known as a practice or trial account, should offer most or all the features of a live account, such as forex economic news, charts and charting tools, technical analysis indicators and the option of using automated forex software if the broker supports the Metatrader 4 platform.

The forex demo account should have exactly the same look and feel of a live account. Upon signing up and downloading the software if necessary, you’ll be issued a unique username and password. You can then go ahead and input any initial capital that you want since it’s not real money anyway. You can then trade away and if you need more capital, just go ahead and top it up anytime.

If you’re new to currency trading, signing up for a forex demo account should be one of the first things to do. Never ever trade live without testing beforehand even if you’re very confident of your forex trading strategies because new currency traders need to get used to the online forex trading platform and other factors such as the power of leverage and money management before entering the high pressure world of live trading.

Even seasoned forex traders often maintain two accounts, a live trading account and a forex demo account to test out new strategies before implementing them live.

If you wish to make use of an automated forex trading system, you can test them out on a forex demo account to verify that the claims of the creators are legitimate before using them on a real money account. However, you should always treat your forex demo account seriously and trade as if you’re on a live account so as not to develop any bad habits that might affect your real trading subsequently.
